Ajax forward Antony is apparently the target of a £51 million proposal from Manchester United, who are looking to strengthen their assault in time for the 2022–23 season.
It has been rumoured since last month that Antony, who has three years left on his present contract at the Johan Cruyff Arena, will sign a permanent deal to join the Red Devils. The 22-year-old has been at the top of United's wishlist since former Ajax boss Erik ten Hag took over at Old Trafford.
The left-footed forward played for Ajax in 33 games last year across all competitions, scoring 12 goals and dishing out ten assists. He was called up to the Brazilian national team as a result of his impressive play, and in his nine appearances for Brazil, he has netted two goals. United has reportedly made a bid of £51 million for Antony, but Ajax is holding out for a price of £68 million, according to GOAL. The Eredivisie giants intend to keep the player for another campaign, according to the report.
Antony's representatives are currently pressuring the Dutch side to accept a lower offer from the Premier League team, despite the fact that the transfer has stalled. Former Ajax manager Alfred Schreuder previously stated to ESPN: "We want Antony to stay at Ajax. He is under contract till 2025. The club is aware of my desire to collaborate with him."
If the agreement is made, Antony's joining Manchester United would improve the calibre and level of competition in their ranks. Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford, and Anthony Elanga are the three excellent wingers that the Old Trafford team already has.
The transfer market will be active for Manchester United.
Tyrell Malacia, a left-back, was the Red Devils' first summer acquisition, and now they are looking for a defender, midfielder, and forward.
Christian Eriksen, a free agent, has reportedly verbally agreed to sign a three-year contract with the team, according to The Athletic. The playmaker, who signed a six-month contract with Brentford in January of this year, played in 11 Premier League games last season, scoring once and dishing out four assists. Meanwhile, according to The Athletic, Manchester United is trailing Barcelona in their pursuit of midfielder Frenkie de Jong. According to Sky Sports, United are also interested in signing Inter Milan veteran Stefan de Vrij, Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez, and free agent attacker Paulo Dybala (via Daily Mirror).
